What is SAT
The SAT is a standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States. It measures literacy, numeracy, and writing skills that are needed for academic success in college. The SAT is a multiple-choice, computer-based test created and administered by the College Board.
How is the SAT score determined
Your total SAT score is a number between 400 and 1600. It is the sum of your scores on the Reading and Writing section and the Math section. Each of these two section scores is in the range of 200–800. Both sections contribute equally to the total score. Your raw score is simply calculated using the number of questions you answered correctly. The raw score is then converted into the scale score (on the 200 to 800 scale for each section) using a table.
When should students take the SAT
It’s generally recommended to take the SAT for the first time in the spring of your junior year and again in the fall of your senior year. This gives you an opportunity to improve your scores before college application deadlines.
Are you allowed to take multiple SATs
You can take the SAT as many times as you want. There are no restrictions for registering for and taking the test.
What is SAT Superscoring
you can combine SAT scores from different tests. This process is often referred to as Superscoring. Superscoring is when colleges combine your best score from each section on the SAT across different tests to create your best possible composite score.
For example, if you score 600 on math and 700 on reading on one test, and 590 on math and 720 on reading on another test attempt, the school will base its evaluation on the scores of 600 on math and 720 on reading.
However, it’s important to note that not all colleges accept Superscores. Some colleges will use only your highest total score from the SAT, but many will use the highest score per section from each submitted test. Therefore, it’s recommended to look at the admissions requirements for the college that interests you to see how it handles SAT score submissions.
How does the SAT score get sent to colleges
SAT scores are sent to colleges electronically on a rolling basis. When you register for the SAT or take it in school, you might have selected colleges or scholarship programs to send your scores to. When your score is available, you can send it along with information about yourself to additional institutions.
